Non-pedigrees - known in TICA as Household Pets (HHPs) - do not need to be registered with TICA to be shown.

However, as TICA is unique amongst the mainstream registries in offering titles and Regional or International Awards (RW/IW) to HHPs and RW/IW awards to registered HHP Kittens, it is worth registering your pet with TICA if you intend to show on a regular basis and want to earn titles and compete for the Regional/International Awards.

The application form (a copy is available from the TICA main site or you can apply online) is straightforward to complete.

Please note this form should not be used to register a non-pedigree for use in a pedigree breeding programme. This page explains how to do this.

You need to list the cat’s name, birth-date, whether Longhair (LH) or Shorthair (SH), sex, the date the cat was altered (i.e. neutered), provide the colour and pattern and also the eye colour.

Household Pet Kittens (under 8 months old) do not need to be neutered in order to be registered

If you are not sure of your cat’s colour, the "what colour is my cat?" website may help you decide

You will also need to provide your name and address details on the form.

All registrations are handled centrally by TICA’s Executive Office in Harlingen, Texas, USA. They will accept registration applications by mail, fax or e-mail (enclose a scanned copy of your application form). Their address details are:

TICA Executive Office
PO Box 2684
Harlingen, TX 78551

Phone: 001 956 428 8046
Fax: 001 956 428 8047
e-mail: submit

If sending by post, you are advised to use the Royal Mail’s Airsure® service to confirm receipt, as the Executive Office does not issue acknowledgements.

It is not necessary to send paper copies if you have sent the paperwork electronically via e-mail. All e-mail submissions should receive an auto-response message from the EO that confirms that your e-mail has arrived correctly. The message will give details of the likely time to process your application and what to do if you do not receive your paperwork back.

You can also check processing status on the TICA site.

Registration of an HHP is currently $10 ($8 for TICA members) per cat

Payment is easiest from the UK by credit card or PayPal. You are advised not to send credit card details using e-mail as this is not a secure method. If using a credit card, send the details (i.e. cardholder name, card number and expiry date) via airmail or via Fax or call the Executive Office at the number above. You now also need to supply the 3 digit verification number (on the rear of your credit card in the signature strip) whenever paying by credit card.

As an alternative, you can pay via Paypal quoting the address Pay first, then send the registration paperwork and provide the PayPal transaction reference number. Quoting the cat’s name, TICA registration number and purpose of the payment on the PayPal transaction helps the EO to match payment to the paperwork.
