If we are Western Europe, why is it EW ?

Our region’s name is Western Europe, but the region will be abbreviated to EW for consistency with the other European regions (EN and ES).

When the Northern Europe and Southern Europe regions were created, NE and SE were already in use by the US North East and South East regions respectively, so the Board decided to use EN and ES.
